MY ANTI - RROD DETAILS
please note - new 12 volt and 5 volt permenant fan system being tested and installed in ALL PHAT systems making my consoles even more reliable pushing my success rate to 98% (see temps below) - UPDATE - newer system being used improving success rate but also reducing noise by upto 30% !!
I think eveyone knows about the RROD which is basically when your console is turned on and rather than boot up and display the normal dashboard you get 3 red lights as above (all other erros are not the same and for more information of these please read the error codes section)
These 3 lights inticate an error with the "DIGITAL BACKBONE" of your console which basically means a hardware error they can range from faulty dvd drives to broken solder joints and blown components and although the secondary error code gives a guide it will not be 100% (see error codes section)
The following fixes will NOT work and should be avoided
Wrapping in a towel and overheating your unit - this will not help and will cause more damage
Heating any part of the unit with a hair dryer, warm air gun paint stripping gun or flame thrower although maybe fun - will not help in any way
Wrapping pennys in tape and sticking under the pcb on the memory chips
Changing the xclamps for bolts and replacing paste and then doing up so tight it bends the pcb
Any other silly diy creation found on you tube
Please think about it do any of the above repairs sound professional - could you imagine Microsoft wrapping your xbox up in a towel or 10.5 tog duvet and heating until it almost blows up or using a 1000 watt paint stripping gun on it or even wasting there money under your pcb with the penny fix NO!!!!
What causes the RROD i hear you ask me - well let me tell you - the xbox is in fact a very powerful PC in a very small case and the chips inside the unit produce massive amounts of heat (see below for heat guides) but this does not melt solder so dont believe it as the unit needs to be 300 degrees plus for this to happen. What happens is due to the xclamps being rubbish and not getting the heat away from the pcb and the cooling system being poor the pcb board bends and this in time causes the solder to break and then BANG!! there are those lights. Then you make think why was this made like this or why cant MICROSOFT fix it. The main reason is the GPU heatsink was cut down in size to make the unit smaller than the PS3 and then was rushed to be out before SONY and materials used are of a poor quality anyway MS wont fix because it means
1) Admitting to a major design fault which not only looks bad but also admits liability
2) Fixing them and keeping fans quiet would mean a bigger unit.
However my RROD PREVENTION AND REPAIR SYSTEM does work and i will show the temperatures below to show why - my system is louder than a normal xbox because the rear fans run at full power all the time and when you turn off your console they run at 5 volts removing the heat build up even after you have powered off your console. (none can be seen from outside) also i do replace the heat clamps and thermal paste but i dont do this alone. As a result of my repair my systems run at a much lower temperature which prevents the pcb from bending and puts a lot less strain on the solder balls under the chips - and if my system doesnt work you have the warranty and piece of mind to know it will be repaired and or replaced as required.
TEMPERATURES COMPARED :-
These are based on the original xenon pcb boards (THE FIRST UNITS) and are all taken from the same unit but all units run much cooler than MICROSOFT's rubbish cooling system design:-
NORMAL UNTOUCHED MS UNIT :-
CPU = 78 / GPU = 84.3 / EDRAM = 77.8 / MB = 41.0
REPLACEMENT OF XCLAMPS ONLY :-
CPU = 74 / GPU = 80 / EDRAM = 77.8 / MB = 41.0
AFTER FITTING THE RROD PREVENTION SYSTEM :-
CPU = 50.4 / GPU = 48.7 / EDRAM = 46.8 / MB = 32.4
AFTER FITTING THE NEW 12&5 VOLT RROD PREVENTION SYSTEM :-
CPU = 47.4 / GPU = 45.7 / EDRAM = 43.8 / MB = 30.8
AS FANS OVER RUN WITH MY NEW SYSTEM THESE TEMPERATURES DROPPED TO ROOM TEMPRATURE OF 22.0 AFTER JUST 30 MINIUTES (NORMALLY MIN 3 HOURS)
These are standby temperaturs and may vary from unit to unit but as i am sure you can see my units run 20-30 degrees lower with my overheat / anti rrod system.
